We, we are the imbalance..
Before we begin, I would like to ask all of you whether or not all of you have read Dan Brown’s novel, ‘The Lost Symbol’? For those of you who have, well and good, and for those of you who haven’t, well, no worries or no fear, for I shall be quoting only one small phrase from the book, whose meaning can easily be understood.
The phrase I am talking about is Ordo ab chao, which literally translates to Order out of chaos, or, simply, the natural balance of the Universe which lets order or balance come after imbalance or chaos.
Our Earth has seen several instances of such a thing happening time and again, be it the post-apocalyptic period after the extinction of dinosaurs, or the Ice age, when most of the Earth was covered with ice, etc.
Indeed, Mother Nature has always managed and found some way or the other to ensure that balance is brought about again to prevent the universe from certain implosion. However, there have been times when the imbalance was too great to handle and thus, it resulted in near destruction of the Earth, or of the species which caused it, sometimes unintentionally because the members of the species weren’t aware of it.
However, looking at the current scenario, it appears that there is a species (which all of us sadly belong to) is THE only species which is literally aiding and abetting in the not too far off scenario of either its own, or the Earth’s destruction, despite being aware that its activities are leading to a situation very similar to the 2012 movie.
Yes, I am referring to ourselves, the Homo sapiens sapiens, as we are scientifically known in our own scientific classification system. We are probably the only species who take great pleasure in slaughtering our own over ‘territorial issues’ and ‘monetary issues’ and a whole slew of similar issues, which if looked at from, well, Mother Nature’s perspective, are just too damn stupid and mindless, since we are the only species who require money to be able to purchase clothes and food (once again, if we just lived naturally, we would generate a whole lot less waste, thus ensuring ecological balance and peace throughout the planet, which is why, at least mentally, I imagine myself to be Tarzan or an animal, unbound and unfettered to anything). I mean, Mother Nature gives us the exact amount of resources we need to survive and yet, in our inane quest for more and more; we just end up over-using the resources we have, by stockpiling etc.
And that is precisely where we err, because in wanting more, we end up using and hoarding more, which leads to a deficiency in other quarters, or places or among other species. And when certain resources, the most common of them being fossil fuels, begin to fall short, we end up panicking and start blaming each other for the crisis, and then, as is the natural or human order of things, the respective governments begin to clamor for power, and thus begins a gruesome tale, of killings, bloodshed, proxy wars, etc and all for a few precious commodities, chief among them, being oil, petroleum, etc.
And this is not the end, for, this carnage does not stop here; it continues and finds its way into Nature’s abodes, like jungles, etc. What am I referring to? Of course, I am referring to the senseless, mindless, and cruel poaching of animals like tigers, bears, cheetahs, elephants, etc for their skin, tusks, teeth, etc which are then sold at very high prices in black markets which especially exist for the purpose.
And such activities have been continuing for a long time, too long a time, in fact, for this phenomenon to be considered reasonable. And indeed, it is because of these activities that our planet is slowly but surely setting up the stage for our annihilation. Don’t believe me? Well, if you don’t, do look up current environmental condition, or something to that effect and you shall see for yourself.
The harsh truth, whether or not we might want to accept it or not, is that our planet is dying, slowly, but surely. As we humans continue our rampage across the planet, Mother Earth sheds her tears, because of the sometimes meaningless slaughter of innocent animals, when we don’t even eat them, but just take their skin and other things. And so, on World Environment Day, I make this humble request to all of you, stop being so unhealthily materialistic and greedy for literally everything, and learn to live and let live. Yes, take what is essential and necessary for survival, but no more, or else, one day, there will be nothing we can take, but only give away. Indeed, if we continue our activities at the same pace, that day is not far when all of us will turn on each other, fighting over the smallest scraps of food, and living accommodations etc.
Therefore, here I end with a humble request to all of you, stop your senseless carnage before it is too late, and take a breather, or else, the proverbial Doomsday will but no longer be a proverb, but a hard, naked and stark reality.
